This guide explains how to import an existing budget into Skoppe. If you already have a budget in Excel, CSV, or a takeoff export, you can upload the file, review the matches, and create a live budget inside your project without entering every trade and amount manually.

Before You Import

For the cleanest import, your file should include clear item names and budget amounts. Common examples include trade names, material categories, allowance lines, subcontractor scopes, or takeoff cost items. Skoppe will read the file and help match each row to the right budget category, but the review step gives you control before anything becomes live.

Steps To Import a Budget

  1. Open the project where you want to import the budget.
  2. Go to the Budget tab.
  3. Select Import Budget.
  4. Upload an XLSX or CSV file from your computer.
  5. Let Skoppe read the file and organize the rows.
  6. Review the auto-matched items, items needing review, and rows with no match.
  7. Choose the correct trade or category for each row when needed.
  8. Ignore rows that should not be included in the live budget.
  9. Preview the import to confirm which items will be created.
  10. Complete the import to create the live project budget.

What To Review Before Completing the Import

  • Confirm that each trade or budget item is matched correctly.
  • Check that material items are not accidentally imported as trades.
  • Review rows marked as Needs Review before completing the import.
  • Look at No Match rows and decide whether to match, create, or ignore them.
  • Make sure the total budget amount looks correct.
  • Remove duplicate rows or header rows that came from the spreadsheet.
  • Preview the final import before creating the live budget.

FAQ

Can I import an Excel budget into Skoppe?

Yes. Skoppe supports XLSX files for budget imports.

Can I import a CSV file?

Yes. CSV files can also be uploaded and reviewed during the import process.

What happens after I upload the file?

Skoppe reads the rows, identifies budget items and amounts, and suggests matches to existing trades or budget categories.

Do I need to accept every automatic match?

No. You can review the matches before completing the import. If something looks wrong, you can adjust it or ignore the row.

What should I do with rows that have no match?

You can manually select the correct trade, create the needed match, or ignore the row if it should not be part of the live budget.

Will the imported budget become live right away?

Not until you complete the final import step. Skoppe shows a preview first so you can confirm what will be created.

Why should a contractor use budget import?

Budget import saves setup time, reduces manual entry, and helps move an estimate or takeoff export into a live budget that can be tracked throughout the project.
